chicks with bad legs

Hi all,

A friend incubator hatched a few eggs I gave him and the chicks legs were not strong, several of the died. Does anyone know what might have caused this? I have gotten chicks from a hatchery and had a mother hen hatch out chicks, but have no experience with incubator chicks.

Any info/advice would be appreciated.

You'll have to post more details. Was it spraddle leg, slipped tendons or something else? Humidity and nutritional problems can cause weak legs. Spraddle leg or slipped tendons can also be caused by putting chicks on slick surfaces, like newspaper.
