Well they haven’t got it back since. We did lose one of the buffs though. I think it was unrelated. She was the smallest one and looked a little lame/sick. I’m not very impressed with the tractor supply chicks as opposed to our regular mom and pop chicks. 8/10 is a 20% death rate. If we need to replenish again in a few years, we’re going to go with local breeders I think.
Next time add a little apple cider vinegar to their water or the electrolyte packages you can get at like Tractor Supply. Also when cleaning up, take a small bowl of warm water just deep enough to reach the chicks butt. Hold the chick in it, they will like the warm water, and use your fingers to loosen the poop gently. This will remove the poop without pulling any of the feathers. Dry off with a paper towel and place back under heat.
