I have two chicks with problems that I have questions about. There first one is a week old Silver Laced Polish. She's been acting fairly normal, but I noticed this when I went to clean her pasty bum. All the fuz around her vent is just... Falling off. And the skin is blueish underneath. I've never seen this before.View attachment 1268799

My other question is about my week old Light Brahma. She also acts fine, but her droppings are a different color. Is this normal, or is this bad?

The Brahma poo is not right, are all it's poo like that? What are you feeding? Did you get it from the same place as the Polish?

Polish butt looks ok, looks to be the color of it's skin? How are you cleaning it's pasty butt? What temp are you keep it at, sometimes too warm = pasty butt Again what are you feeding?

Need to get the more experienced in on this one ... @casportpony @Wyorp Rock

I'm feeding Purina Chick Starter Grower Medicated Feed, and I recently started adding Nutri Drench to their water. The other chicks have normal poo.

My chicks have the same type of droppings. Not sure what it is.

Are they both acting normally?

Check the temperature of your brooder, just to make sure they are not overheating. Have only one warm spot and let the rest be cool - place the food/water on the cool side.

If your little one is having problems with pasty butt, gently wash the bum under warm water and rinse it away. Dry her well, then apply a little coconut oil or vaseline to her bum to help soothe it and keep the poop from sticking.

The poop - if that's the only one that she's made, then likely it's cecal poop.
Watch your chicks for signs of lethargy, fluffed up appearance, or if every poop is like the one in the photo, then you will want to investigate further.

Yeah, all of her droppings are that color. She is one of the fluffiest of my chicks. Why is that a problem? She is a little quieter than the others, but I haven't noticed worrying behavior. However, I know that doesn't necessarily mean she's okay. What does her weird dropping color mean? What should I do? Thanks so much for replying. I was worried that no one else would see this thread.
Also, is it sort of normal for my other chick's fuz to be falling off her vent?

Do you have photos of them?

Being a fluffy chick is not a problem:) What you want to watch for is if a chick is lethargic and is fluffed/huddled up (sitting in one spot looking sick).

Poop can vary widely in color depending on the type/brand of feed along with any treats that you may feed. It can be light brown to very dark. They should have "normal" poop along with the looser cecal poop. If all the poop is very loose, none that are formed with a white cap, then you will want to investigate.

Chicks do lose their fuzz around their vent, wings, etc. to begin new feather growth. Since she has had pasty butt, keep watch on her that no one is picking at her vent.

You're doing good, just observe their behavior. Since you are using a heat lamp, chicks will take a nap at different times 24/7. But they will have active times too - if you have one that is not participating with the others when you bring fresh food/water then give them a little extra care.

Thanks again! Here are some pictures

My Brahma eating a treat that they absolutely love -- some water mixed with their feed.

I use a q-tip and a cup of warm water to clear pasty butt, and it's worked very well for me. Just dab a little water over and over until it's start to soften and gently spin it off with the head of the q-tip. When I used a cloth I inevitably ended up pulling on their poor little buns :(
