Hello, over two weeks ago I hatched 5 eggs in my incubator. One came out with balled feet and one splayed and crooked leg. I honestly didn't think it would survive, but it did. It just layed on its back chirping happily. On the second day, I realized this bird was a fighter and we started to help it. For two weeks we have bound its toes straight and taped its legs. She couldn't stand or sit, but she did figure out how to push herself on her back around her cage to get food.
We were putting it in a cup for an hour, but she\he realized it could wiggle it legs up and sit on its butt instead of standing. So, instead I have been making it stand for an hour with me.
Now, after two weeks, she can stand on her own, but its toes and bad leg still need to be taped. If untapped, her toes still curl and the leg still splays, just not as bad, but still worse than I have ever seen.
The splayed leg is crooked. The knee joint faces inwards.
I'm feeling discouraged. Flopsy clearly wants to live, but still can't walk (refuses to put weight on the bad leg and has started to use her wing to compensate). She eats by herself, but requires help drinking without falling over. She is also much smaller than her brothers and sisters who hatched at the same time.
Any suggestions? Words of encouragement? I'm home from work until September so I have time to make sure she's drinking and doing rehab with her, but I can't continue doing this forever.
Other things I've tried: toothpicks - she screamed for 12 hours
