Chicks with swelled shut eyes & puss in them?

have you done the treatment with vet rx that you use against sick eyes? it might be good for the future here is a passage.
“Eye Worm”: The tiny worm works its way under the third eyelid and causes a pus pocket to form. The bird will blink excessively and rub its eye at the base of the wing feather. To treat, hold the bird under one (1) arm so that both hands are free. Open the bird's mouth while turning its head to the side and tilting down to the cleft in the roof of the mouth can be seen. Dip a small cotton swab into warm VETRx™. Press the swab right into the cleft. Do this slowly. Watch for VETRx™ to come from each side of the bird's beak and pus coming from the corner of each eye. Remove the pus and rest the bird for awhile. The treatment may have to be repeated two (2) or three (3) times before results are seen.
does this help?

Knocking on wood: really hard. So far no health issues here but I am wondering if those instructions for Eye Worm, come on the box/package?

gander007..when i said dirty i didn't mean normal barn dirt, poop etc..there was no bedding etc in the pens just inches of poop it was pretty bad .. do you ever freeze water bottles and put out so your Birds can cool off with them..I have used big juice type when it has hit 100 here.. I couldn't imagine having chicks in 115 degree weather but then again I had chicken in that -30 crap last winter and didn't loose any

She must be over dosing herself if she can't smell that mess. I have had bedding get matted down before I got it cleaned up and that stuff smells bad. How much worse would it be with no bedding?

Eye worm is a real worm, and Vet Rx will not cure it. Eye worm is only found in the tropical areas such as the deep south, or Hawaii, and in other parts of the world, where the Surinam cockroach lives. Most links say that it needs to be removed under anesthesia by a veterinarian. It can be treated with Valbazen (albendazole) by mixing equal parts water and Valbazen, and flushing the eye, and giving 1/2 ml orally, and repeating this in 10 days. Eye worms can be seen visually in the eye. Here is a good thread about it: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/651261/eyeworm

The Merck Veterinary Manual:

Eggs of Oxyspirura mansoni, Manson eyeworm, are deposited in the eye, reach the pharynx via the nasolacrimal duct, are swallowed, passed in the feces, and ingested by the Surinam cockroach, Pycnoscelus surinamensis. Larvae reach the infective stage in the cockroach. When infected intermediate hosts are eaten, liberated larvae migrate up the esophagus to the mouth and then through the nasolacrimal duct to the eye, where the cycle is completed. Other insect species may also serve as the intermediate host.
