Ok, the temps here are hovering in the high 80's during the day. My babies are HOT! I've noticed them trying to cool themselves by walking around with their wings out from their bodies. They are also panting, sorta like a dog. Is there anything I can do to help them? Other than shade, they have plenty of that. I mean if they are already suffering from the temps now... what's it gonna be like in August for them. They have also taken to sleeping out doors instead of going in to roost. Any suggestions?

I was just hopping online to ask the same temp questions! It's about 93 at the moment, and hopefully tomorrow will be slightly cooler. My little three week olds just sit around with their wings drooping, and it's almost like they are panting. I have them in the garage where the temps are a little cooler, and they have fresh cool water. I have been changing the water every hour since that's about all I think I can do. It's going to suck when the real summer weather hits.

Plenty shade, cool water, and maybe a fan in the coop. Mine have a great window and a roof vent. 2 doors stay open for a good draft..and a fan on one side. I made them a sand box, and keep it in the coop...its a little damp right now but they sure seem to enjoy it! Summer is going to be a real bear....im sure! If you have water access....maybe you can get them a water mister. Good luck everyone, keeping your chicks cool!
