Our sweet little girls are almost 2 weeks old now and my two little boys LOVE them. We are taking them outside every day for "chicken recess" and my boys like to lie on our picnic blanket and let the chicks jump on their backs, hop up to their heads, etc. However, since chickens will be chickens, 3 times now a chick has pecked my boys in the eye. I know they are attracted to those big shiny things and thankfully my boys haven't been seriously hurt. Now we'll have to have the rule that we can't be on "eye level" with our chicks. Perhaps most of you seasoned chicken farmers knew about this, but in case any newbies like me hadn't thought of this, I thought I'd post. Luckily, even after being pecked, my boys both still love their chickies.

Yeah, they will peck at anything;) If my kids go outside without shoes on, I say don't come back upset if they get your toes. They love my wedding ring and even after all this time will still go after it.

chickens below eye level is a good idea.

If they peck in the wrong spot... injury or blindness could occur.

It won't stop as they get bigger either.
I have experience of chickens from when I was younger, but I still forgot and one pecked my labret stud. Didn't hurt though, but I am more careful with my jewellery, careful with my eyes and watch for the sudden "homing" movement of a head seeing something interesting. I also warn any guests that want to hold them to be careful of eyes and shiny things.

Now I know. Thanks for posting that. I will have to watch out for eye peckers with my kids.
