On CL in this area. . . people are always giving away old play sets? I'm thinking it would be a good base for a coop? Has anyone ever used one for a coop?

Do you have to use a specific wood (or stay away from a specific wood) when building a coop? I thought there was a wood that was harmful? Is that correct? ? ?

This is a give-away play set (about 1.25 hours away) But I think it would make a great coop and run? ? ? ?

So if anyone has done this can you please post images.

But in Chicago land areas. . . people buy these huge play sets and the kids rarely use them. . and then people want them out of their yards. (We got two play sets to add onto and build our tree house - 9 levels) Our kids use them all the time! It was all recycled materials except two support beams and the screws and bolts! What ever I could find. . .we use and designed around what we had found. . . .here it is. Oh . . . not one nail is into the tree it is a free standing structure!

I wanted to use this as the coop but was out voted! Shoot!

So what do you think? a good idea or not?

I know I've seen at least one and perhaps a few of these here on the site. You may have to search a while.

I can see the possibilities! Spend some time researching coop designs for ideas. I think it could be cool!

Heres one...It is in Zeeland Michigan, and they are selling the thing for $200!

I am building my coop and run out of an old wooden playhouse (HERE), it's not quite the same thing, but close. And this is a lady who responded to my post about the playhouse conversion that built a coop out of a play structure JUST like the one you're talking about (HERE).
It can be done! And can save money if the playhouse is free like both these were!

Recycle and re-purpose...my motto! I think that has great possibilities...even if you took it apart to use the posts for the frame. Our coop was made with all "found" material except the fasteners and paint...think we have maybe $30 in it. Here's a pic...it's only primed; paint goes on tomorrow, but you can see what you can do with "scrap", imagination and elbow grease.

Can I come over to play?

. Lucky kids!
That first one looks like a natural coop, it looks perfect!
Cluck-cluck . . .can you make it out by 10:30 am today. . . we are having 20 early teens over for a party. . and water fight. The ones who get the hoes to the top with large bins . . . usually win the water fight. :):):)
