I have a pair of sharp winged teals that we picked up in December. We are keeping them with domestic poultry and everything seems to be going well. I have a few questions though. Do the teals need to be kept in a separate run? Are they ground nesting birds? When will they have clutches (when is the breeding season)? What is their dietary requirements? Is it ok to be keeping them with domestic chickens and ducks? do they need a pond or is a large basin ok? Do they need to have cover and a nesting box, E.G. branches and sticks in a pile so they can nest and hide?
any advice would be much appreciated.

Here is my pen. I feed all my ducks mazuri duck diet. It works great for them and is a floating pellet so no waste. you can keep them in with domestic ducks if they are okay with them, some larger ducks will pick at teal. I believe the are ground nesters. I don’t raise them. They would like a small pond but the don’t exactly need one.
