Here's one of my McMurray mutts; she and all her girlfriends are very wonderful hens. I've had this breed for four years now and they are by far the friendliest I've owned; they are great layers too. I'd highly recommend them to anyone.

She's a Black Austrolorp from McMurray. I assume cuz I got her mail order, she's a "mutt". Are all mail order chickens considered "mutts"?

Actually, to my understanding, it's the black stars/black sexlinks that are the "mutts" -you have a full bred beauty there!

Hooah! Thanks for the good news. I just assumed any chicks from a mail-order hatchery was a mutt.

Oh no-I am sure most are pure bred, although there are questions on some types, like Easter eggers. I'm no expert though-it would be worthwhile asking around in the breed forum...
