Hello all,
Tomorrow we are getting our first chickens...ever! And we are very excited, but already ran into a problem. That night it is supposed to get down to about 5 degrees... Yikes! The chickens are around 3 - 4 months old. I'm guessing a heat lamp is needed but is there anything else needed? Also, there is snow in the closed in pin area, not much, but some. Is the snow okay? Because, I know that mud isn't good for chickens. Thanks for the help!

! Pleased you joined us. Are they in a coop or just a pen? If they have a proper coop that is draft-free, they don't need heat. If they are exposed to the elements in a pen, they will be pretty chilly tonight and may need some heat. Good luck to you!
