I have read about everyones chickens dust bathing, and I never see mine do it. I have 8 week old silkies. I have sand all in the run, so I thought maybe there, but no never have seen them do it. I have plenty of grass in the yard, and plenty of dirst spots, and none their either. I was wondering if chinchilla dust would work? Has anyone ever tried this?

I'm not an expert, but I do have a chinchilla and I don't think I would spend that much money because it would take a lot of dust. They might be doing it and you not seeing them. My silkies will roll around in leaves and anything else. But you can try it.

I bet they are doing it when you aren't looking. Mine start doing the dust thing at a few weeks old.. if not younger. Silkies... well, they are slow on the draw in about every aspect of chickeness.

You don't need to do anything so expensive for them...If you wanted to you could buy play sand and a kitty litter box and they'll go to town in that.
I have wallows all over the back yard. And Slifer has dust bathed on the rug and Penny had dustbathed on a dining room chair...I thought she was gonna fall off and get killed.
