It's simple. You want clean, safe, healthy chicken.
Tell Congress: We Don't Want Chicken from China!!

Tell Congress: Protect Our Safety, Not Tyson's Profit!
Americans agree: Given the poor track record of food coming from China, we want to continue the ban of chicken processed in China from making its way to our dinner tables.

For the last two years, Congress has banned Chinese chicken imports. This year, agriculture giants like Smithfield, Tyson and Cargill have been lobbying Congress to lift the ban. They want to process poultry in China because costs are lower there (as are standards), import the chicken back here and sell it for a hefty profit. Act now to keep the ban.

It might save the corporations money, but it's no bargain for consumers. Sign the petition to Congress to keep the ban.

In 2009, over 600 shipments of food from China were blocked from coming into the U.S., including fish, cookies, candy, crackers, juice, tea, canned and dried vegetables, and spices. The reasons for rejection weren't reassuring: contamination with melamine or banned chemicals; pesticide residues and unsafe additives; and conditions inspectors described as "poisonous" and "filthy." Recently the Chinese government announced that food poisoning cases in China were up 40 percent from last year.

With a track record like this, it's too soon to start letting in processed poultry from China. Tell Congress to maintain the ban on imported poultry products from China.

Sadly here, they dont tell you where the food is coming from. I have seen places that have stickers that tell you though.... so there is some improvement. I would love to eat my own chickens, but keep naming them.....

It's hard enough trying to purchase decent fish. The chinese processors use "America" name and graphics splashed all over their products; read the labels carefully. With all the atrocious conditions and practices, it is hard to find US caught and processed (or Canada or other country with more trustworthy products) and it is more expensive. But I can tell the difference in taste and quality - not freezer burned, sour, full of bones and junk, or just plain not edible.
And many things are not even labelled. I buy as local as I can; it does make a difference. It hits the budget really hard though.
Don't even get me started on unlabeled sulphite use!!!! argh! And other allergens that don't seem to make it to the label.
We've found a farmer in the next county that'll save us a beef and send it off to the butcher just grass fed, and we have a few chickens for eggs. Eating more beans is good for us anyways! I'm a lousy angler. If I can just get the family to spring for the survey and fencing, I could maybe do meat birds (chickens and ducks and a few geese... yum). I have read up on raising tilapia in barrels and water troughs - intriguing.
It is very time consuming, but I do check labels! Its amazing where food comes from, disturbing too. If its not labeled, I ask; or skip it entirely. It started with my bad food allergies, and now there are so many stories out there:(

I try to get veggies at the farmer's market here every week, but they often dont sell meat, and if they do its so expensive. Im going to have to stop naming all the farm animals, lol.
