I am purchasing some birds from a mixed flock, a trio of Toulouse plus one White Chinese gander. I do not want to retain any Chinese genetics in my breeding program. What are the best ways to tell the difference between pure Toulouse and a cross between a white Chinese gander and a Toulouse goose. I am experienced with geese but I’ve never had Chinese, all my birds are Embden or Toulouse.

You will see a visible bump on the crosses face. Not as large as a pure Chinese but noticeable. Colors may be mixed to but not always.

Thanks. The crosses were not impressive table birds, I will not Perdue that. Embden ganders over Toulouse geese give excellent table birds.
Could you post some pictures of your toulouse x embden crosses ? I would love to see the colors and patterns you get .

If you’re working with real pure bred birds I think what you find out that the females are white and the males are white with black splotches. In my last two years I see birds which have a solid gray and I suspect that one of my parents are not pure bred. I tend to keep back one or two birds each year. If I want more Toulouse I bring them in from external bloodlines but I tend to keep some Embden. Another complication is that not all Toulouse actually pure bred, some of those birds are crosses.
I have a good video but I can’t figure out how to post it

This in one older photo you can see some of the crosses in the foreground and you can also see some pure Toulouse and Embden. I have a really good video but I can’t figure out how to post it.

Thank you so much . That is great. They are beautiful. I have crosses of my own but rarely see other peoples and wonder if there’s come out different. They do ! Mine have given me a few variations from saddle back patterns, lavender, solid grey, or white with a few speckles and some like yours. I suspect my original stock weren’t pure breed either even though the sellers always said they were.
