Chinese New Year Hatch/February 3 2011

Wolftrack, drowned eggs is usually from to high humidity over a longer period of time. Sticking can be from a very short (minutes) drop in humidity at a critical time. This is why it is important not to open the incubator when there are pips. Looks like you should bring your humidity up to about 33 to 35 on your accurite.

well... have the bator hooked up in my room with an extra heater in there to make sure its stays pretty warm and keeps the temps regular. In texas one day it can be 30 and then the next day it can be 60 i swear!!! I've had it ready to go since sat... now out of the blue right before this schedualed hatch we have a problem... its just not staying warm enough!! i'm going ot have to sweet talk this sucker for the next few hours in hopes it gets back to normal...

I could be wrong but I think most people are using their humidity calculation numbers incorrectly. Take Wolftracks' calibration yesterday that read 68 when it should have been 75. I think most everyone is subtracting the 68 from 75 to get the difference and then adding that number, 7 in this case, to whatever reading they see later... ie reading 23 plus 7 must be 30%

However, this is not the correct way to adjust your readings. What you need to do is divide 75 by your reading when calibrating... 75 divided by 68 equals 1.102941 (I would round to 1.10) then when you are looking at your reading later ie 23 you multiply by this number to get a true reading.. 23 times 1.10 equasl 25.4%.

The only time the actual difference is 7 is when the meter reads 68. When it reads lower than 68 the difference is much less than 7 and when it reads higher than 68, the difference would be more than 7. For example if it reads 10 it is actually 11, and if it reads 85 the actual would be 94.

Hope this helps!

Ms.FuzzyButts :

I set mine last Friday.. 36 silkie eggs. I candled earlier and had only a few that looked like they were duds. Probably because I was a week late on setting them.
I was wanting to do the Easter hatch too, but just don't know yet. Found out Sunday that I am going to hatch one of my own. That's right! Pregnant with my first child.. Surprise, surprise!! Oh well, at 36, I guess it's about time since I am not getting any younger. I feel like choking Rathbone.. She announced her pregnancy at the end of the NYD hatch and I told her not to feel bad since I was my age and had none yet.. And proceeded to say that I should knock on wood before it could happen to me.. I didn't knock fast enough apparently..

That right there just messed with my non-math liking brain. I have no worries, mine calibrated at 76%

Eggs are due in today! Delivery confirmation says they are at my local PO as of 6:30 this morning. I called & they wouldn't let me come & get them. They said they had to make at least one attempt to deliver.

My wife gets home at noon. I just hope they come by after then.

I'm still up for Saturday looks like. Maybe even monday for my sole Coturnix egg. Still not word on my Button eggs as far as shipping out to actually arrive at my house. Regardless of time I want them Yesterday! See how patient I am.

I have a humidity question. What is the percent humidity you guys find to work best. I don't have a hygrometor, so i'd be playing it by ear and by the water tray. The average humidity around here is between 72-78% and sometimes higher.

My hatch rate seems to do better with just the dry air humidity level. When I forgot to add water to the tray for hatching I had less problems and when I added water I had shrink wrapped chicks. Just strange that way.

That's funny, cause my PO calls me as soon as they come and wants me to pick them up. Thay always ask if I want them to deliver, but I'm always to impatient and plus they complained last time about having to deal with the package.

No, this is confusing to me.

Just got word on my eggs. Frezing weather in Florida is keeping them til Monday. They won't be shipped til monday which means i'm setting those on like Friday of next week. Possibly sooner.
