has anybody used the Chinese incubator with the yellow lid are they good? do they keep
tempreture or should I keep a thermometer inside as well?
cheers fil

Could you post a pic or link to the incubator please?

I’m afraid that they are often sporadic and need a lot of babysitting. I dont have the yellow lid one but do have another cheap Chinese one. The thermometer gives the totally wrong reading so I don’t trust that at all and use my own. Unfortunately as well some of them have been tested as unsafe ~ http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/Be-Aware-faulted-incubators-for-sale-/10000000209894337/g.html

I bought the janoel12 Chinese incubator and have babies due in 10 days. So far it has held a good temp. But the thermometer on the machine was off a degree. You really have to babysit it with the humidity.

Absolutely double check the temp and humidity daily - it's just not worth it being off and it does happen with these machines. I've lost eggs due to one of these machines, and it was a horrible experience. It only takes one experience to make you know that you will never put yourself in that position again.

do they really need babysitting that much

Yes, they really do need babysitting that much. I got one before I knew better, and I did manage to hatch chicks in it once, but it really sucks as far as incubators go. You can't trust the thermostat and even with it bang full of water, was still not keeping the humidity where it needed to be. Plus, you really need to keep the styrofoam packing on it while you use it because plastic lets the heat out too easily. There have been many reports of them catching fire, too. For the price, I would always recommend a HovaBator 1602n with the fan and upright turner over a plastic incubator.
