A fox outside the chicken run this morning caused the chickens to fly around and panic, and after I got out there to scare it away (it didn't get in or get anyone- whew) I noticed one of my pullets had blood coming from her beak. After cleaning it up, it seems like she must have hit it and chipped part of her upper beak, not too far from her nostril. It's at the top of her beak, and the chip is still attached by a little piece of beak- sort of like when you get a hangnail.
I cleaned it with an antiseptic and applied some blue coat to it so the other birds don't peck at the area. Should I attempt to pull off the chipped part? It's not too deep, but I left it attached for now, not sure if it's needed for healing or if it can fall off on its own. Will try to get a pic.
Thanks.

Good, I hope so, I really don't want to pull it, even though it's small.

I tried to take a pic, but with the blue coat on it and the chip back on top of the wound, you can't see anything. She's keeping that eye on the side of the beak injury mostly closed, but when she does open it, she's not squinting and the eye itself looks fine. I'm guessing it's due to discomfort- which I feel terrible about, but don't think there's much I can do for that. She's still eating and I did see her do some preening, so I think she'll be ok, just sore like anyone would be after crashing face first into the run hardware cloth or into one of the roosting sticks and meeting a fox up close.
