chiping chick

I cant really tell what her inner membrane looks like, you will see in the article that most veining will disappear to fine hair like dry lines then you can move on if need be! Good Luck, I will check back in the morning!

Well its gone midnight and Im wiped! But I now have a chick in my kitchen! Look at the size of the feet on that!!!! Not only was the shell too hard but I think the chick was shrink wrapped(if Thats the right term!) I slowly started peeling the shell away bit by bit then moistened the inner membrane with warm water on a qtip . Very very slowly I pushed the membrane around the chick it took me 4 hours as I didn't want to move to fast. As you can see I am not touching the part that is attached. Hoping that will come off over night. Lots of chirping coming from the kitchen now. Just hope Pip makes it through the night now but don't see why not.

New Chick Care Links and Info

DIP THE BEAK OF THE CHICK IN THE WATER BEFORE YOU TURN IT LOOSE in the brooder. A taste of water right away helps them to find more water soon. If your chicks are at all stressed, add about 3 tablespoons of brown or table sugar to each quart of water for extra energy. Most baby bird loss is caused because the bird doesn't start to eat or drink. Never let your bird run out of water. http://odysseyranch.com/Chick Care Tips.html

I answered you on Sally's thread, but here goes again:

If it was hatched by a broody, she should go back to mom asap. Before she gets to used to you and gets confused. Get her to her mom while her instincts are still strong and she'll listen to her mom. Slip her under the hen while she's sleeping, so she will wake up to the chick and think it hatched during the night. If you are worried about the cold you can put mom and the chicks in a separate area with a heat lamp for the first 3-4 weeks, until the chicks are stronger. This will also help keep the chicks warm when they run around.
