I just woke up to hear chirping in my room. Naturally I thought it was the birds outside, but I soon realized it was one of my chicks in the incubator. Is this normal? Do I need to intervene? None of the eggs have pipped that I can see unless the pip is on the bottom. Can the pip be on the bottom side?

I know nothing about using incubators, but i hear chicks a day before they hatch under their broody mother, so I'd say do nothing or at least pending expert advice to the contrary.

All the best

Yes that is normal!! It just means they have pipped into the inner membrane and after awhile-(could be as long as 12-24 hrs) they will make an external pip! Good luck!!

Yes, it's completely normal to hear chirping. Like chickhatcher96 said, it has just pipped into the air sac, and should be making an external pip within the next 24 hours. Good luck!
