Chloe's eye

Our EE hen Chloe's right eye is swollen, (or the area around the eye anyway). Don't know what it could be. It has been like this for a few days and none of the other members of the flock have swollen eyes. Any ideas?

How does it feel--soft or firm? A peck wound or sting to the face, a cyst or tumor, and a respiratory infection with a swollen sinus could all be possible reasons. The latter may be possible if you see any eye or nasal drainage, or sneezing or coughing. Have you added any new birds in the last couple of weeks?

It is soft and doesn't seem to hurt much if at all. I did introduce new birds.... But they are bantams and younger than the currant flock. No sneezing or coughing. Although when we first inspected it I did gently put my finger on the spot and gently pushed towards her eye. There was a very small amount of liquid... But it was clear. From what you suggested it sounds like it might just be a swollen sinus...

Then I would get some Tylan 50 injectable, along with a few 22 gauge needles and syringes. Give 1/2 to 1 ml ORALLY twice a day for 5 days. It can also be given as a shot into the breast muscle once a day for 3 days.
