chocken spurs

If you want them completely gone...I have no words or suggestions for that.

However, if you just want to do a trim get some very sharp rose trimmers - or something similar - and just trim the ends off. Have blood stop powder on hand because it's super easy to go too deep and you don't want your bird losing tons of blood.

I've also heard of twisting them off if they are long enough. It makes a "pop" sound, but make sure you do it fast or it'll be quite painful for your bird, if you can imagine! Watch a few youtube videos before you do it.

Ive actually used Bolt cutters to trim, it goes through real easily. Hang your roo upside down with rope or get someone else to hold whilest you cut through. Carefull not to cut too far up, about 1/3rd of the way. Also if you dont have blood stop powder, use flour.

Ive also seen a Hot potato method that take off the whole spur, but leaves a core, but ive not tried it myself!

Another way around the spur problem is to use poultry saddles on your hens.

hope that helps
