Choclate Orphington?

I have some Chocolate Orpingtons that are about the same age as (or a little younger than) your chick. They are all chocolate except one who is black. I noticed it right away I got them.

Reading Hoover's page on their Chocolate Orpingtons, they apparently are breeding them as sexlinks, Chocolate male over Black female adults to make Black male and Chocolate female chicks, in which case I'm wondering if you somehow ended up with a male chick from those parents instead of a female. Your chick does have a rather large comb for a two week old Orpington... That would mean that he carries Chocolate, but it being a recessive gene, it's not expressed and he is visually Black instead. Your chick is Black either way, not Chocolate.

I just looked I guess it will be 3 weeks in two days does that make a difference I dont care either way

Hmm... that's still a pretty good sized comb for that age, I think... I'd give the little one a few more weeks to be sure, though.

I would like pics in natural light. I think the “brown” is from glare/lights, cherry.

You’re right. It’s just the lighting. Bird is black. Too young for gender ID.

Yeah I am not in a big hurry since either way it will be part of my flock but I will definitely post in another couple week
