Chocolate Orpingtons

If you use a pure Blk Mottled Roo, you will get all Blk / Blk splits/ Blk Mot. I would use the Little Blk split for Choc Mot to hatch Blk/ Blk split to Choc mot/or Choc mot. I'm not sure how the CC will play in. I used a pure Choc Roo over Mottled hens to start. I took the best male from this cross and put him over hens from this same cross and I am hatching blk, blk mot, Choc, Choc mot.
My hens do show a hint of mottling on their chest and tail.

Pics of the quad I have.

And mauve one of my favorite colors. I want a whole flock of them. Eye candy for sure.

You are right that my logic was incorrect about using a black mottled roo in the second cross. I guess my best and fastest bet is doing a sibling cross between the two and hatch enough chicks to get both choc mottled pullets and cockerels. The only problem is that as far as I heard, there is no way to differentiate between mottled and split to mottled chicks and before the first molt, split to mottled may show some mottling on the tail and chest.

Is that what you are referring to when you say your pullets have some mottling. Are they split to mottled?

Yes. They have very faint tips that just let me know they are split to mot. I would not call them mot. Only split.
Got it! You have a very nice rooster btw. Do you plan on selling any hatching eggs/chicks from the project birds. I am a hobbyist and not a professional breeder just in case that matters.

Just wanted to show a picture of my choc orp cockerel. He is around 6 months. Bought from a lady who hatched him from eggs from papas poultry in California.

Pretty boy devinsdenhen.

I have a beautiful rare chocolate Orpington duck. Her name is Harmony she is 2 weeks old. I'm not sure what she will grow up to look like because the color "probably no longer exists" and no she is not a khaki campbell.
I'm going to make a thread dedicated to her and her color so if your interested in her feel free to follow. I'll post her information there. I plan to breed her with a Rouen or khaki when she's older because I don't have any male Orpingtons.
