Why can you not hold a chicken upside down??

All their organs will move and will crush the lungs and heart. If you only hold them upside down for a very brief period of time they will be fine but longer than a few seconds and they could get seriously hurt.

You can give her some medicinal charcoal as well ans/or milk thistle tea.

Why can you not hold a chicken upside down??

They do not have a midriff to keep the organs in place. So even the often seen habit to lay them on their back is dangerous to them as their breathing will be restrained.

To be honest? Personal experience chocolate doesn’t bother chickens. When I was a kid, there was an Ancona roo named Flopcomb my grandfather had. I would “fight” him, grab him up, then carry him around for hours and feed him all kinds of things, including copious amounts of Hershey kisses and those small bite size Reese cups. My grandparents always had a dish out on the dining room table. I know those aren’t dark chocolate or anything, but it never bothered him at all. Of course to be safe don’t deliberately feed it to your chickens like I did back then, but I bet your hen will be just fine.

Wait...I have one more question. Beanie is getting stressed out being in the coop eating and drinking without her friends, who are out free ranging. Should I bring them in to be with her, or no? Just though I would ask in case her being stressed will make anything worse.

A small bit of chocolate will probably pass right through causing no harm. It would take a larger amount of it to become toxic. If you are too concerned, a bit of activated charcoal will help. Charcoal chunks from the woodstove will work too.

Just bring them all in. Stress isn’t good. Food and water are more important then getting to free range.
