Choking??

Help! My 12-13 week old chick is making gasping noises, closing 1 or both eyes, and is stumbling and seems to be having trouble breathing. I cant see her tongue. I don't know what is wrong. What is happening?

Vet care is always best.

Did she swallow her tongue? If it's blocking her airway, gently try to move the tongue back into position.

Someone else had a similar problem that was caused by a piece of string that got wrapped around the tounge. The string was swallowed and pulled the tongue backwards.

I suggest that you open the beak and find the tongue.

She actually seems fine now. It was really weird. She started flopping around and ended up having her wing behind her head laying on the floor, then she hopped up sat there and started drinking water and eating. When we took her outside she started running around with the other chicks and took a dust bath. Now she's in the barn getting ready to sleep for the night
