one of my ducklings seems to be choking, it streteches its neck and keeps opening its mouth.it also has a group of bright yellow feathers on its rump hidden under a few longer feathers that none of the other ducklings have, i have never seen it before.

The feather colors are probably just a unique pattern.

Your duckling could be choking, but it could also be suffering from a respiratory infection or sometimes like wet pox in its throat. Are there any other symptoms? Chickens due this with their having trouble breathing as well as when choking, but I'm not sure about ducks.

Best of luck!

I've never heard of water fowl getting wet or dry pox. Not saying they couldn't

Does the ducklings have water all the time/ they especially need to be able to dunk their heads to clean out their nares and eyes if the nares get clogged they cannot breathe except through their mouths so check the nares for clogs and make sure to keep them with water and feed 24/7 till at least 4-6 weeks old. also feel along the neck for anything that maybe stuck in the throat, what kind of bedding are you using/ some ducklings will eat shavings, straw or hay which can get stuck. and can you post a pic of what you are talking about with the feathers?

this link has great info and also shows a pic of a home made waterer that is safe for ducklings https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/750869/raising-and-caring-for-ducklings#post_10611711
