(1) Are you new to ducks/ when did you first get ducks?
Hi everyone! I'm new to chickens and ducks. I got 15 ducks last September but lost 8 to my neighbour's dog. I since then moved them twice - first time was a temporary solution for winter. We had a very brutal winter where I lived and I was not able to keep them warm enough to my liking, so they spent that winter in a barn. They recently moved to their summer (and hopefully I won't need to move them again) dwelling and they are loving it.
(2) How many ducks do you have right now?
I have 8 ducks - 5 from last September, and 3 ducklings.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Unknown! I for sure have a magpie and a Campbell - the others were sold as pretty much everything and anything.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I was on my quest to finding dog/predator proof habitat for ducks when I ended up on BackYardChickens. Since then, I never left.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Well, I'm a writer and a translator! I'm also a dog trainer and I use my ducks are herding flock. I hope to add sheep and goats next spring.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
So I have two australian shepherds. I train them in herding, as stated above and I also do obedience and rally-obedience with them. I got ducks for them... but then I got eggs from my ducks and I've since then started to enjoy the duck-tasting eggs in my pastries. I don't think my flock will get any bigger and I will try to maintain it at 10 ducks
