chook cannot walk anymore - help/advice

A couple of days ago i noticed my 16 week old gold laced wyndotte walking like it was drunk - neck to the side, one leg not working properly and kept falling over to the one side. I bought her down to the house and have been keeping her inside at night, she has gotten worse, cant walk at all now but seems like one leg still can work and the other cannot, it lays on the one side all the time. Does anyone know what it could be, and can i fix it or can a vet fix it?

I would venture to say a slipped hock or twisted leg. Especially if her appetite and droppins ard normal.

Yes eating and drinking as normal. can a vet fix that problem?

I really don't know.lt depends on the disorder,and whether or not the diagnosis is correct. Only a trip to the vet can tell us for sure. If its a slipped tendon feeding her a supplement with manganese,and B vitamins might help. If it's twisted leg, I doubt it.

This sounds more like Merriks disease than a slipped tendon. Please research Merricks on BYC, there is alot of info on it.....I hope that is helpful....

Keep her separated, take her to the vet, If you can't afford the vet atleast get an necropsy done for us all.

Just looked at the material and i think you are correct that it is merricks disease. I will take her to the vet tomorrow to confirm.
