Chook toys

I put a swing in for my birds .. a few have attempted it, but none of them really use it. I've got various roosts, a couple of tires with dirt/sand mixture for grit and dust bathing, and have done a few toys..what mine seem to want most is for me to just let them out into the extended run and sit with them while they graze in the nice grassy part.

I agree 100%. The swing, they were not into. They really prefer to get out of the run into what I call the “chicken yard“ supervised by yours truly.

Today, however, one of my chicks found a plastic lid from a water bottle. The chicks thought that was the best thing ever... they picked it up, threw it around, stole it from each other. They’re like my cats… They don’t go for the “bought” toys; they’d rather have a pipe cleaner that fell on the floor, or a pen.

I use the The suet cages for birds and fill it with chopped lettuce or veggies and added a swing. Swing needs to lower and more will try. The suet cages are less than $2 a piece and I hung several. They come with metal hook. The girls love it I don’t personally feel any kind of string is safe

I love that xylophone idea. Gonna drive my neighbours nuts. Bwahahaha. One side has screamy young girls, and the other has a teen with AWFUL taste in music. So fair's fair, I say.

What about those treat dispensing balls for dogs? Would chickens work those out, with a portion of their treats in?

this thread started making Me think about a xylophone too. Ha ha. I’d say your reasoning is fair trade. I have seen the treat balls that are made for chickens but I would think the ones for dogs are the same and probably a little cheaper because anything made specifically for chicken seems to be pricier. Depending on how many chickens are going after the ball I could see where it could be amusing but probably more than one would be good
