Choosing a chicken breed

Hello, I highly recommend a Buckeye. Sweet, deferential, good temperament. Lays about 4 eggs per week. Seems to get along with everyone. Good mouser, if you need one. She follows me around, knows her name and comes when called.Another great breed is the Silver Gray Dorking. A sweetheart. Lays a white egg 3-5x a week.
If I am not mistaken, both are endangered breeds.
I would recommend a Buckeye too, but not sure they can be found in Melbourne, Australia?

So many chickens, so little time... Maybe you can tell us more about what colors you like, temperament? Silkies are the best pets ever, but small in size and often go broody. Is it important that you have full sized eggs? And yeah, 4 or 5 eggs is about what you expect from the better layers. Have you looked at the Reviews area on the bar above? You can find pictures and reviews of many breeds.

Check out Henderson's chicken breeds chart. I would advise you against mixing bantams with LF. And unless you want the high overhead of a hen who is constantly broody and must have her broodiness "broken", I advise you not to get a silkie. They also tend to get picked on by "normal feathered" flock mates. I am fond of EE, Buck Eye. Also have Black Australorpe, and have found that I really like Plymouth Barred Rock. Have always enjoyed Dominique due to their friendliness.

If ur trying to get some eggs but not a lot and a friendly bird then try going towards I'd say silkie but not an overly big egg same with must bantams
Presonally I'd go for a bramha mainly cause I love them but here's why
In the good old days I use to keep anywhere from 50 to 60 bramhas so I'm not 100% sure on how many eggs they'd lay
But when I kept them they where very tame (especially when u had the meal bucket) to me there just a well rounded bird
Hard to describe them but I'd advise at least searching them to see what u think
Another good bird is the sablepoot they don't lay a lot of eggs and if u don't fancy eating the eggs the hen might clock on them and u'll have wee birds to sell so it a win win situation
And my birds are quite tame
But to be honest from me to u theres endless amounts of breeds that can suit it's all about timing if u can wait then u'll eventually come across the bird that fits u
This is just my lersonpe opinion
