Chick_a_dee, i've got my brooder all rigged up with peat moss, too. i think i paid a bit more for my 3cu. ft. bag (over $7, i believe), but it doesn't take much in a brooder. i'd use it as a permanent coop bedding if i could get it cheaper. it's great stuff. and before anyone jumps in to (rightly) point out that peat is a nearly non-renewable resource, i'd like to say that i agree, but i see a lot less waste in using it as a bedding substrate, composting, and using it as soil amendment than just sprinkling it willy-nilly on lawn and garden like so many folks do.
