Chopper in the Hen House

Just wanted to drop a line and quick thank you for the useful information on the site and in the forums.

My wife and I have have 4 Children, ages 7,5,3 and 7 months, and have been looking for a way to teach them responsibility and self reliance. So...we got some chicks.

I picked up four today (The legal limit for my lot size in my municipality): 1 Black Australorp, 1 Barred Rock, 1 Speckled Sussex and 1 Buff Sex Link. All about 6 weeks old.

My 3 and 8-year olds had a birthday party today and the the kids loved the chicks!

I'm super excited about them. They're living in storage totes in the garage until I build the coop, which I'm trying to do out of free and/or reclaimed lumber and still make it look great.

Thanks, all, for the welcomes. Things are great so far. Built the frame of the coop today and got the bottom netted off so they have space in the grass. The wandered in the yard all day while I was building too. The whole family is having a great time with them.
