Hi from NC!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I've had chickens since I was a kid. We had to sell our farm and move for a new job, so I was without them for about 10 years. About 2 years ago I started another flock.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 35

(3) What breeds do you have? Mostly silkies, but a few laying hens. I really want to find a good breed of laying hens to focus on as well as the silkies. I'm leaning towards Malines since they are a dual purpose bird and rare.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I love watching them, and how curious they are. They are all pets, lol!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Gardening and painting.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I live on a few acres with my husband and two youngest kids. I have a crazy Jack Russell mix that would love to eat all of my chickens up.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D I can't remember how long I've been on here. I joined years and years ago. I just didn't log in much when I didn't have chickens.

Welcome back to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies! I always check in the "What's New" section as well at the top of this page. This way I can read how I may have a similar question or help give some advice.
