Finally got the Christmas tree out of the house and just set it on the back patio till we cut it down to put in our greenery bin. The moment the stand hit the ground all the chickens flocked to it and started pecking at the needles. They haven't moved since (about 10 minutes now). Is this going to hurt them? I should mention the tree is extremely dry (bad stand prevented the tree from drinking water which we didn't know until it was too late). Do I need to get this out of their reach ASAP? Or will they be okay? Or even, would this be fun for them to play with and keep entertained?

ETA Should I have put this in the feeding & watering section? Just noticed perhaps it should go there.
