1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) WILD MUSCOVY DUCKS
2) What is the behavior, exactly. Lameness usually only one leg and will eventually resolve. Open mouth labored breathing which never resolves. High respiratory rate.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? Approx. 6 months with few deaths.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? Yes, moorehens, florida mottled duck, mallards, etc . . ,
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. No as is pathogen.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. All were very healthy prior to arrival of wild Egyptian geese which displayed the same symptoms.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. wild
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. normal to occasional diarrhea - tested three muscovy feces and no parasites found.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? For Bronson, which is now owned by me and is inside, has received: 1) erythromycin 2) tetracycline 3) Baytril (enroflaxcin) 4) nebulization with albuterol (does nothing for him) and others
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? Been to vet and continuing to take Bronson to Vet.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use. Wild animals with the exception of Bronson. Bronson has piece of sod (grass) newspapers and doggy pads. Changed daily.
