I lost another girl last night. She had been sick for a few months and finally passed away in my arms. I had her to the vet last month and they told me they thought it was internal laying. She had been my monster egg layer as well. No penguin walk, some swollen belly but it never changed over the entire course of this. comb starts out going a little floppy, eventually goes pale and shrunken near the last few weeks before death. in the 2 months before this really got going, she had some respiratory issues- harder to breath, open beak sounding like a paperbag wrinkling up with breaths. that subsided with Baytril and the wasting continues. hand fed vitamins, calcium from vet, poly vy sol, fruit, veggies - anything I could get her to take in.

I need to pick everyones brain. What causes what appears like a 'chronic wasting' in birds? I have another one I think is starting like my last one. takes a few months from start to death. lethargic - but not horribly, I notice it, but others probably wouldnt. eating less but still eating. then they start to loose weight and it goes downhill from there over about 2 to 3 months. it's like they eventually starve to death.

I have used Valbazene to worm, Zimectin gold for tapes. have tried every antibiodic and pennicillin known - including Baytril when it seems like they get really bad. They might get a little better, then right back at it.

I end up loosing one about every 6 months over the last 2 1/2 years about the same way! Going to take this one that's just starting to the vet this weekend for bloodwork. Hoping maybe I can catch this one.

Red Sex Links 3 year olds that I got from Tractor Supply in 2010. It doesn not hit everyone at once. seems like one every 6 months or so. I dont know if the RSL's were vaccinated - they were from TSC before I knew any better to get a vaccination. My others have all been vaccinated for Mareks.
