I got Chuck with my first flock of 50 almost 3 years ago. Since then I have added 3 more flocks totally give or take 70-80 chickens. He has been my only rooster. He is not real friendly, but not aggressive either. He treats his hens with reasonable care. Once in a while he will get pushy and peck at one of them that is bugging him. He does his job, alerting all to any potential danger.I would feel a little sorry for him because we free range, and 70 chickens take off in all directions and he tries hard to keep an eye on all of them. In May I agreed to take 4 chicks that the school hatched as a science project and didn't know what to do with once school was out for the summer. (They were born in April). I thought "great" 4 more egg layers. Wrong!!!!!. 3 roosters and 1 hen. All four have always hung together and are very friendly. I can pick them up , love up on them, etc.Chuck isn't bother by them. He could have taken them out a long time ago when they were chicks. When I give them treats, they are all together and are not aggressive at all.Currently there is no acts of aggression. My kids tell me that they will eventually fight until death. My question is should I separate them? Re home all of them, or 2 or wait until I see some aggression. Is it possible that they will live in harmony or is that a pipe dream?

With 70 hens, and free ranging in what I assume is a huge space, this is one of the few times this question has been asked that I actually think it has a fairly decent chance of working.

Most people want to keep 3 roosters with 8 hens, and that generally does not work.

However, one will have to watch and keep an eye on things, because it could go into a fight. But with that size of flock, I think it will work well, and then you would have back up if something happens to Chuck.

Thank you ! Honestly they are so sweet, I mean they are roosters and sweeter than some of my hens. I gonna pray that we can "live in peace" Oh ya They have 16 acres to roam on but hang around the coop and venture up to my house for blue berries about 500 ft from the coop. I figure if they make it up to the house they get blueberries. Some days I get about 10 of them and they go through a pint of blueberries in about 30 seconds.
