There are many experts who can explain this better,
but I think two crested ducks will have babies who will not survive,
because of a skull deformity caused by the gene for cresting.
I hope someone who knows better will come along and correct me.

no need to correct you are dead on...when you cross two crested birds your chances of chick survival are slim...sad really but it is due to the fact the crest is actually a piece of the skull that has not formed fully-when you cross two of those together -its deadly
