I may have to rethink my idea of selling the older eggs on craigslist and keep them for my self. I set these at 8days at the oldest. I hope a few hatch I also have some under a broody hen (chicken) hope those hatch as well.

here is a clipping from UC Davis that got me really looking into the "old egg" subject, but had noticed that my older eggs hatch better than 1 day old eggs!! I'd like to add that in my eggs, I have a ratio of 1 to 2 rooster to hens.. with about 80-85% hatch rates if I hold the eggs to 10 days old.

Clean eggs should be stored, large end up, on
trays or flats in a cool, well ventilated room
kept at about 55° F (12.8° C) at a relative
humidity of 70 percent. A unique feature of partridge
eggs is their ability to withstand storage
up to 28 days without appreciably affecting
hatchability (table 1). However, most breeders
prefer to set eggs every 7 days. Further studies
at the University of California show that eggs
need not be turned daily if the storage period
does not exceed 14 days (table 2).

Can I buy your week old eggs???

It works, I set mine right on top of the incubator for a week or longer and they hatch like crazy!! if I set fresh eggs trying to fill a flat, I don't put much faith in the fresher ones... I do not turn my chukar eggs at all.. I put them in the flats, and set them when I feel that I have enough and they have set about 10 days..

edit to say I don't turn them before setting.. I use an auto turner while they are incubating!!! didn't want any confusion here

I just picked up a dozen chukar eggs. Some are from today, some older. Should i let them sit for a few days before i put them in the incubator?
