I believe that's a darth vader male (aka golden redbreast) which would explain his lack of bib.

The golden red breasted will have no visable bib and the red breasted will have a thin pencil line bib. In one of my earlier pictures is a red breasted with minimal bib the following male is a Golden and has no bib just a black head (Darth vader) . Hope that helps.... although I don't have his pictures as a chick.

I do beleive that the third pic (aka the 4 week old male) is red breasted. They both now have very visible bibs. I proly should have gotten a pic of that back then. My hen

in the first pic is getting pretty dark. I'm thinking shes gonna look like the hen in the second photo by quailbrain behind the red breasted . She is molting out to darker feathers.
