Of course, we kinda take the indoor thing to an extreme compared to most people....
The set up for our 6 runner ducks is:
1. A large indoor pen for the ducks. More of less an outdoor run inside the house. lol. It has wood pellets and saw dust for bedding so they can go about their business whenever they want while in their pens (night time and most of the day). Of course that means shoveling is a daily chore... good thing they have their own room to keep the smell under control (half dozen boxes of strategically placed baking soda, an air purifier, and a couple scented air fresheners seem to do the trick. hehe)
2. Bathtubs for evening baths. Fortunately we have 2 bathtubs so all six ducks can bath at the same time (2-4 ducks per bath). we often let them choose which tub they want to go it but sometimes I need to override their decision like last night when all 6 decided to run to the same tub.
3. Play area in the living room. Fenced in with 2 large pet fences combined together. They get diapered when they are in the living room (rarely more than a couple hours in a day).
4. Walks. We'll put walking harnesses on them and shoes (to protect their feet from the concrete and asphalt) and take them for walks in the city. Need to bring a spray bottle to break up any poop they leave behind... I swear, the bigger and scarier looking a guy, the more likely he'll be deathly afraid of ducks!
5. Backyard. Despite living in the heart of downtown Chicago, we have a small fenced in backyard. I made it escape proof (chicken fencing to keep them from squeezing between the bars of the fence) and they have a large kiddie pool to swim in. I'll be planting a garden to grow fresh veggies for them. They are welcome to harvest it themselves when they're outside. ;-) They are free to fertilize the lawn while they're out there.
6. Puppy pads or bed pads (giant puppy pads for people with issues...) on our laps, bed, etc. when they just want to sit on our lap.
7. Trips to the pet stores whenever we need more supplies like feeder fish. Diapered of course. Always a 2 hour trip since everyone in the store wants to see them!
