City folks - killed our first raccoon

People keep building houses and taking down trees and forest and then complain about the wildlife. Their habitat is being taken away at alarming rates. A raccoon unless it has rabies will not harm you unless you corner it. And every racoon does not have rabies!!

Try those predator lights. I hear they work very well.

Killing an inoccent creature is not always necesarry. Secure your lots and fences. I have chickens to and have never lost even one to a predator.

Someday the only place you will see an animal will be in a zoo. Thanks to the cement jungles.

I know folks will disagree, but you did the right thing. It would have gone after the chickens eventually.

That racoon was just waiting for you to slip up. It was after your chickens. -OR- It could have been startled by your children and then lashed out at them and heaven forbid hurt them. Most likely the first thing that would have happened would have been a tangle with your dog - ever seen what a racoon can do to a dog's face? It could have been an expensive doctor or vet bill.

You did the right thing.
