City girl needs to know how to make beans.....

Ok so I told him it would need to go in the crock pot tomorrow, and I'll make steaks tonight. He was ok with that. That gives me time to get cornbread stuff and make sweet tea (

You will enjoy it!

You should start another thread on sweet tea, if you don't get about 20 methods on this one! That is another whole realm -- don't look at me, I don't like the stuff, but around here, I'll bet more of it is consumed than beer.

You really don't need the crockpot unless you just don't want to mess with them. After the hour soak they take about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to cook. Idk about pintos, I always use great northerns or navy.

Oops sorry if I was unclear about when to add the ham/bone. It's when you add the second water so that it cooks off the bone and infuses the beans with ham goodness. I too have used chicken broth, but usually for navy/great northern beans especially.

Aww Orchid you're sweet. And Saddina, yvw!

Pintos can take 2-3 hours depending upon how dry they are. I just prefer the freedom of the crockpot. And then I have a tendency to forget things cooking long term and wander out to the garden. Crockpot is safer LOL!
