City Meat Birds

we are raising chickens for the first time bought at our local rural king. they sold my husband 4 jumbo cornish rock as laying hens.
my mom raised that breed a few years ago and said they will be table ready in 6-8 weeks.
my granddaughter who picked them out told her daddy "they don't lay eggs we have to eat them"

we have the 4 jumbo cornish, 4 bantams, 6 rhode island reds, 4 brahmas, 4 australorps, only the reds were gender specific.

Just joined the group of City Meat Bird raisers. Picked up 4 today and have some
feelings of hesitancy. However, am committed to overcoming that and placing
healthy meat on my family's table. If all goes well, I will continue to increase
the number I buy and spread them out as I don't have a lot of freezer space.

Someday i think i will try raising a few meat birds along side my eggers. My question is, when the day comes that all of a sudden half of the flock is gone, never to return, how will this affect the egg chickens? Does it confuse them or affect egg production? This might be a couple years away, but, one can never be too prepared.
