with my girlfriend and there is a ban on chicken's " for the selling of meet and egg's" It seem's its kinda foggy on keeping them as "pet's"

Here is what the secretary of the zoneing office and myself have come up with to help me.

1. They have allready approved for a woman to keep 2 pigmey goat's in the city, and one woman with a pot belly pig.

2. My brother will be showing the bantams i have in 4-H Next year.

3. I would need a signed and noterized paper with the permision of my new land lord.

4. Produceing papers saying that my birds have been "vaccinated" would help wonders.

The only problem of the 4 above is that none of my brids have ever been vaccinated. What can i do about that??

how bad is it??? If i remember right, i thought i had my girls vaccinated straight from the hatchery. Couldn't i just call/e-mail them and ask them to send me proof on paper that they were vaccinated as day old peep's?

Hatcheries usually vaccinate for Mareks or Newcastle. How many diseases do u want them vaccinated for? Testing for salmonella, ecoli, pullorum, and other egg carrying diseases can be performed through your state poultry association.

no need to test for "egg" carrying diseases...since i will be telling the people at the city meeting that i will not be using them for that reason

Just one or two diseases would be fine as far as vaccination goes. Is their a dual purpose vaccination possibly? Im sure if i have documentation of at least one vaccination then that would be enough for the people at the meeting to see im takeing things seriously.

I have Mareks and Newcastle vaccine. I do not currently have pullorum antigen. They can be purchased through Jefferslivestock.com along with other vaccines .

Most people who vaccinate their birds do it themselves. Call up your state agriculture dept or county extension, and ask what if any vaccines are recommended for your area. Find out if there is low cost testing available (and find out what if any strings are attached, to decide if you want to go that route).

You can call a vet and ask what is involved in getting a health certificate--it may be tests; it may be a physical exam; it may be both. Chances are it will cost less to have all your birds done at once rather than separately.

The issue with salmonella and e.coli is that it does not require eating an egg to be passed. It is also passed in their droppings. Handling a bird or cleaning their pens without washing your hands afterwards would pose a risk if the bird carried either of these bacteria.

thanks....Sonoran, and while i got ya here, search my name for a second...you will find a post that i put up in the "what gender is this" section with a silkie pullet i just got. I would love your opinion of her. I also have feet pictures for you if desired. But she has VERY good spaceing and no webbing.

Back to my problem tho. I could really vaccinate the birds myself?? I know i can do it with pigs because i showed them in 4-H for 10 years. If i did it myself, i wonder what the cost would be? Seeing i only vaccinated for say "only one" disease. Im sure that would be enough for the people of the court.
