Temporary City-dweller here.

I am currently living in a little townhouse in Sacramento. So, obviously, I don't currently have chickens. Just me, DH, and our cat. I used to raise chickens as a teen, but shortly after I moved out, my entire flock of 80 birds met with tragedy.

But! In 2 years or less, we plan to be in our new home on some property and I will be back in business!

Hi! I live in a small town too. Because of the way the town developed, we live a block off of Main street, but are across from a wooded area. One of our neighbors has chickens, and another has turned his backyard into a garden/orchard. We have 7 chickens, 5 rabbits, some quail, and a decent sized garden. There's something really satisfying about having a little sustainable oasis in the middle of all the sterile, perfectly manicured lawns.

I am certainly a city dweller who is dreaming of my husband's retirement when we can move out of here and go somewhere with more room. I got my first chickens almost three weeks ago and never thought I would fall so in love with them. We can only have 6 hens in the city so we started with 4 and I already want more

I have learned a lot here already and look forward to learning more from my fellow suburbanites.

It is nice to have your own tiny farm, isn't it?

Welcome to BYC! You will learn so much here. Your chicks look so cute!

Glad to join in! I live in Beautiful Downtown Burbank - home of the Tonight Show - so a very urban/suburban area, but as you will see from my signature, I have a mini farm and some chicks and we're doing just fine.

I agree, having a little farm in a neighborhood full of manicured lawns is so much fun!

I live in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, 4th largest city in the state. Not a small town by any means, and let me tell you it wasn't easy to get chickens here either! I had to apply for a special-use permit, and cut through all sorts of red tape, more information on "My Coop" page, including television interview. YUP! The Local news crew came out and did a story on it all believe it or not.

Sounds like a lot of trouble.my town is pretty stupid too, we need to pay a $5 fee once a year, for every bird on the property. My town is a bunch of robbers. :/
