I raised my 4 R.I, Red chickens in a small thin walled coop. Looked nice and worked well in wqrm temps but I knew something would have to be done in the winter. We have a nice small barn built into an embankment so the temps are a little cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. I converted the tack room into what I called a chicken condo
. We put in nesting boxes, several roost at differnt heights. It has 2 full size folding doors with windows. It's when they come in for the night, they seem to follow the lead of horses when they retire for night. We close the door turn off the light and their good for the night safe and secure
