Clarification on gender and maybe a guess at breed?

How do you know the Barred Rock isn’t a Dominique? I have Dominiques, and I can’t for love or money tell the difference between the two. I know, in theory, Doms have rose combs, but I have some single-combed ladies. I for sure can’t see the difference in the stripes. Apparently Rocks have cleaner lines, whereas Doms are more mottled.

In any event, your Barred looks more or less like my Doms did at that age — all are hens (though Lady Constance does have that tail…).
It’s neither

I’m still not sure which one is the Wyandotte you were talking about…
That would be the one with a rose comb.
It's the one on the left in the first photo.
It is also on the left in the second photo, with it's head sticking down.

I know it’s a Plymouth Rock as I only have one Plymouth Rock girl all these chicks are bred from my own flock…

Ok thanks and now for the next question about said chick any idea on what she might be mixed with? I’m assuming that it’s dad that is the Wyandotte as my Wyandotte girl wouldn’t have a bar of the boys … any guesses as to what mum will be appreciated… I’ve got many breeds of girls so it really could be anything from an EE to a sexlink lol

If you can give a list of what breeds of roosters and hens you have, I could probably rule out some of the options. For things like EEs, photos can help too. (Figuring out the parents can be fairly simple with a small flock, but difficult or impossible with a really large flock.)

For that chick with the rose comb:
I am expecting at least one parent with a rose comb (or possibly a walnut/cushion/strawberry comb.)

I think I see blue in the feathers, so I am expecting one parent to be blue or splash, or possibly white (because white can hide blue or splash.)

I see gold in the feathers, so I am expecting the father to have the gold gene.

The feathers seem sort-of laced, so I am expecting to see some kind of pattern in the feathers of at least one parent and maybe both.

My expectations may be wrong, but those are some of the traits I would be looking for.

With a Barred Plymouth Rock mother, you might have a sexlink there, depending on what genes the father has. If the father does NOT have the gene for white barring, then the barred chick would have to be a male. But if the father has, or might have, white barring, then the white barring on this chick does not tell us what sex it is.

I know that she hatched from a cream/tan egg it wasn’t a large egg but it wasn’t small either lol … the best thing I can do is post a photo of the flock all together and you could try and see if you could possibly pick the parents… I’m not fussed on what mix she is it would just be nice to know for future breeding seasons lol.

As for bean ( chick with barring) it could be possible that dad is either a Arunacana, splash silkie , BLGW , mystery mixed bred or a lavender possible mix bred … I’ll post some photos up of the boys … I’ll also post a photo of my sebright boy tho I don’t think he would have be able to get to the girls and he much prefers my jap bantam girl due to her size

Wow, you have quite a mix!
Sorry, I don't think I can accurately pick her parents from there.
It's not any of the white layers, probably not anything with a crest.
If she has clean legs/feet, she probably does not have a parent with feathered feet.

Barred chick:
Father is not the splash silkie (chick would have crest, and would be blue-based instead of black.)
I don't think I see barring on any of the roosters (hard to tell on the palest few).
But if the father is not-barred, then the barred chick must be a male because of coloring (in addition to other ways of telling).

All good thanks… I might wait another few weeks and see if any new feathers decide to come thru lol 😂

As for mystery mix girl that’s all good I’ll wait and see what colour eggs she lays lol always a good way to try and work out parents lol 😂
