My Grandmother used to have one of these in the window over her sink. I was never allowed to touch it but she'd sit it on the kitchen table and let me watch it. It would keep me entertained most of an afternoon.

I have one of those in my window now. It works on a temperature difference. I panted the butt black to make it run on solar an not water.
