If we had spent the last 35 years (since the last 'energy crisis') developing alternative fuels we'd already be using/driving with them. But we didn't, and now the big scramble along with the associated finger pointing - problem is, folks, we haven't done our due diligence and we still need to fuel the country. So yes, I do think we can use the clean coal technology (I worked for a large engineering firm that specialized in energy and know they are hard at work developing the processes - while they are also hard at work on alternatives). It isn't an all or nothing issue. We need as clean energy as we have available while we work on the alternatives - but that work on alternatives has to be towards getting us off the petro-chemical feedline that's so polluting to the planet, and also getting us off products controlled by foreign interests - globalization isn't good for anyone.
Personally I'm with T. Boone Pickens, we should all be driving natural gas powered vehicles. I hope he's still alive to see it.
